This page provides information for parents considering Sea Scouts for their son, or daughter. WHO ARE WE? WHO CAN JOIN?
WHICH GROUP TO JOIN? Which group your child joins will depend on their age, skills, and level of maturity. Our current members come from Albert Park, Middle Park, Port Melbourne, St.Kilda, Richmond, Collingwood, Abbotsford and Balaclava. WHAT DO WE DO? Many of our activities occur near the Scoutshed. It is a modern, two story, steel and concrete building. It is located next to The Point restaurant, on Aquatic Drive, within Albert Park Lake Reserve. ( Melways Map 2K G6 ). Each week there is a group night designed for young people to have a lot of fun. We play games, but always with a sense of co-operation, fairness and sharing. We teach water craft skills and bush skills on meeting nights. Sometimes we row on the lake at night. Sunday afternoons scouts can sail, kayak and canoe on Albert Park Lake. All equipment is supplied by the group. High safety standards are always maintained. Each term there is a trip to the bush where we camp, hike, and practice our bush skills. Sometimes we visit regional lakes ( some still have water ) where we sail. Each year we attend a weekend Jamboree held by the Scouting Movement. Twice a year we host a regatta at Albert Park Lake. Other Scout Groups join us in sailing and rowing races. Parks Victoria allow all scouts to camp in the park during these events. WHAT DOES IT COST? Fees are $192 for Cubs, and $272 per year for Scouts and Venturers. Some special events cost extra, for items like food, and entry fees. However there no obligation to join until you are confident Sea Scouts is suitable for your child. WHO CAN YOU TALK TO? You can obtain more information by contacting the Group Leader, David Winwood, on 9571 2487, or the Parent's Committee President, Steve Hibbard, on 9699 8153. |
