What are the ages for each section?Joeys: 5 - 7 years old
Cubs: 7 - 11 years old Scouts: 11 - 14 years old Venturers: 14 - 18 years old How do I enrol my child in Scouts?It's easy, just Contact us and we will be in touch.
What does my child need to wear?Youth members should wear the relevant section shirt.
Closed toe shoes are a must! Some activities may require modified clothing, such as outdoor activities or water activities. Scout Shirts can be purchased from Scout Shop or the Snowgum factory outlet 1702 Dandenong Road Oakleigh East, VIC, Australia Does my child need special outdoor/overnight equipment?/the majority of equipment is provided by the Scout Group, who own or have access to a large range of camping and outdoor equipment such as tents, ropes, sailboats, kayaks, canoes, paddle-boards and cooking gear. Your membership fees and other money raised through fundraising and grants covers the cost of purchasing this equipment.
However, you may have to purchase some equipment such as a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, drink bottle, and kitchen utensils if your child needs to attend a sleepover or overnight camp. Where and when do you meet?We meet at our Scout Hall, located inside the Albert Park Reserve, 7 Aquatic Drive. (Unless otherwise notified by section leaders)

Are the concessions available?Unfortunately not. We charge leaders the Scouts insurance fee only for their children.

Can I come along before joining?Yes. We are more than happy for new members to try Scouting before deciding to join. You will still need to complete and submit a youth membership form for insurance purposes. You will not need to pay any fees at this point. The first 3 sessions are free, after which you can decide if you want to join up. At this point you will be invoiced for the yearly membership fee.
Is there a waitlist?Yes. Unfortunately due to lack of Leaders regular parent support there is a waitlist for Cubs & Scouts. Please Contact us for more information on this.
There are certain circumstances where you may avoid the waiting list, please view our group information pack (found under forms tab) or Contact us to discuss. What background/training do your leaders have?We have a vast variety in backgrounds of leaders. Our leaders have career backgrounds in teaching, IT, engineering to name a few. We also have leaders who are experienced and qualified social/youth workers and have backgrounds in youth development and mental health
The safety and wellbeing of the children in our care is our number 1 concern and priority. Scouts Australia's child protection system is considered to be amongst the best in the country. All leaders at 1st Victorian Sea Scouts undergo a mandatory Police check, a Working With Children Check, are required to provide references as part of their leader application, and receive comprehensive, ongoing training in dealing with children. We cater for medical, physical and dietary requirements by obtaining all the necessary information to allow Leaders and other helpers to take appropriate action. At least 1 person trained in first aid attends all major events. Please speak to our leaders who will more than happily explain their backgrounds and experiences. Am I able to pay in instalments?Unfortunately not, the group pays fees on behalf of members, If you are experiencing financial difficulties please speak to a Group Support Committee member to make arrangements so that your child doesn't miss out.
Does the fee's include the camps?No. Camps, excursions or special activities may incur an extra cost. The Leader will advise you if there will be a charge and how much it will be.
